description:

This painting is part of a triptych of paintings that depict the humiliating implications of the Christmas holiday, which we often celebrate so thoughtlessly. It exists because we are lost and need a Shepherd, we are dirty and need a Purifier, we are cursed and need a Savior. And so, the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us!

For thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day… I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest,” declares the Lord God. “I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick.”
Ezekiel 34:11-12 & 15-16

“I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me… It will be to Me a name of joy, praise and glory before all the nations of the earth which will hear of all the good that I do for them.” Jeremiah 33:8-9

“For all who rely on works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, to do them.’ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us – for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.’”
Galatians 3:10, 13
